High economic growth

High economic growth
The 1960s saw Japan's economic growth rate exceed 10% per year on average, a rapid economic growth never seen before in other countries. Starting with the switch from coal to oil (energy revolution) and the establishment of the Ikeda Hayato Cabinet (1960) which advocated "income doubling", technological innovations such as synthetic fibers, plastics, and home appliances, the expansion and centralization of petrochemical complexes, motorization, and a distribution revolution such as supermarkets progressed. The rise in income brought about a richer life for the people, such as home electrification, but it also left negative legacies such as rising prices, overcrowding in metropolitan areas and depopulation in rural areas, and pollution. The oil crisis of 1973 put an end to high economic growth.
