A former town in Takada County, central Hiroshima Prefecture. The main settlement is Kotachi, which runs along the Eno River and the Geibi Line. The town is primarily agricultural, producing the famous Takada pear and timber. It also produces pharmaceuticals, sewing machines, roofing tiles, and wood products. In March 2004, it merged with the towns of Yoshida, Yachiyo, Midori, Takamiya, and Mukaihara in Takada County to form Aki-Takata City. Area: 72.93 km2 . Population: 5,922 (2003). 広島県中部,高田郡の旧町。主集落は可愛(えの)川と芸備線に沿う甲立(こうたち)。農業を主とし,有名な高田梨の栽培が盛んで,木材も産する。医薬品,ミシン,瓦,木材製品などの工業も行う。2004年3月高田郡吉田町,八千代町,美土里町,高宮町,向原町と合併し,安芸高田市となる。72.93km2。5922人(2003)。
