Drafted by Luther's collaborator Melanchthon and read out at the Imperial Diet of Augsburg on June 25, 1530, this was the first Protestant article of faith, seeking the approval of the Catholic princes. While maintaining the fundamental doctrines of the Reformation, it used as gentle language as possible, but the Catholic side rejected it. After some revisions in 1540, it became the basis of the Peace of Augsburg in 1555. [Osamu Naruse] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
