The basic unit of people's rule under the ancient Ritsuryo system. Under the Ritsuryo system, the actual family at the time was not treated as a unit of rule as it was, but was organized into households with some legal fiction added, with 50 households making up one ri. After the implementation of the Gori system, the ri was renamed Go, and henceforth the households that made up Go were called Goko. A head of household was placed in the Goko and it was used as a unit for the distribution of land and the collection of tribute taxes, but during the implementation of the Gori system (715-740), the Goko was further divided into 1 to 3 house houses, and these were responsible for the collection of tribute taxes along with the Goko.
