Imperial Guard - Kougu Keisatsu

A police organization in charge of guarding the Emperor, Empress, Crown Prince and other members of the Imperial Family, and guarding the Imperial Palace and Imperial Residence. Based on the Police Law, it was established as an affiliated organization of the National Police Agency. The Imperial Guard Headquarters is headed by a Chief of the Imperial Guard, who manages the affairs of the Imperial Guard Headquarters under the orders of the Commissioner General of the National Police Agency. The Imperial Guard Headquarters is staffed by Imperial Guard Officers (not police officers) who are national civil servants of the National Police Agency and perform duties as special judicial police officers for certain crimes, such as crimes that occur at the Imperial Palace (there is a total of over 900 personnel). The Imperial Guard Officers are classified into eight ranks, similar to police officers, from Imperial Palace Constable to Imperial Palace Superintendent. Guard Stations, which are equivalent to police stations, are located in Sakashita, Fukiage, Akasaka (all in Tokyo) and Kyoto.

天皇・皇后・皇太子その他の皇族の護衛、皇居・御所の警備等をつかさどる警察組織。警察法に基づき、警察庁の付属機関として設置される。皇宮警察本部の長として皇宮警察本部長が置かれ、警察庁長官の命を受け皇宮警察本部の事務を掌理する。皇宮警察本部には、警察庁の職員で国家公務員である皇宮護衛官（警察官ではない）が置かれ、皇居における犯罪等一定の犯罪について特別司法警察職員として職務を行う（定員は900人余り）。皇宮護衛官には、警察官に準じ、皇宮巡査から皇宮警視監までの8階級がある。警察署に相当する護衛署は、坂下、吹上(ふきあげ)、赤坂（以上は東京）および京都に置かれている。
