Atomic bomb survivors

Japanese: 原爆被爆者 - げんばくひばくしゃ

A person who has suffered physical damage as a result of exposure to an atomic bomb. In particular, a person who suffered physical damage from the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and on Nagasaki three days later on the 9th. The term is often abbreviated to hibakusha, and hibakusha has become an international term. There is a similar term, atomic bomb victims, but this refers to a broad range of victims, including not only the atomic bomb survivors themselves, but also their surviving family members (atomic bomb widows, atomic bomb orphans, atomic bomb elderly) who lost close relatives to the atomic bomb, such as spouses, parents, and children.

原子爆弾の被爆によって人体に障害を受けた人。とくに1945年8月6日広島市に，その3日後の9日長崎市に投下された原子爆弾によって，身体的被害を受けた人。略して被爆者ということが多く，hibakushaは国際的用語になっている。なお，似た言葉に原爆被害者があるが，これは原爆被爆者本人ばかりではなく，配偶者，親，子など近親者を原爆によって殺された遺族(原爆未亡人，原爆孤児，原爆孤老)をも含む広い範囲の被害者を指している。
