Ikiru [Book title]

A historical novel by Otsukawa Yuzaburou. It depicts the suffering of a samurai who lives after the death of his feudal lord, despite being prohibited from committing seppuku. It was published in 2002. It won the 127th Naoki Prize in the same year.
The title of a film directed and written by Kurosawa Akira. Released in 1952. Starring Shimura Takashi, Odagiri Miki, and others. A human drama depicting a civil servant who used to be a trouble-avoider, but who is given a prognosis that he only has a little time left to live, and who then begins to carry out his work with a sense of mission. The scene in which the protagonist, played by Shimura, swings on a swing is particularly famous. This film was chosen as the best Japanese film at the 26th Kinema Junpo Best Ten Awards. It has won numerous film awards, including the Senate Special Award at the Berlin International Film Festival and the Japanese Film Grand Prize at the 7th Mainichi Film Awards.

いきる【生きる】［書名］

乙川優三郎の時代小説。藩主亡き後、追い腹を禁じられながら生きる武士の苦悩を描く。平成14年（2002）刊行。同年、第127回直木賞受賞。
黒沢明監督・脚本による映画の題名。昭和27年（1952）公開。出演、志村喬、小田切みきほか。事なかれ主義だった公務員が余命宣告を機に、使命感をもって仕事を遂行していく姿を描くヒューマンドラマ。志村演じる主人公がブランコをこぐ場面は特に有名。第26回キネマ旬報ベストテンの日本映画ベストワン作品。ベルリン国際映画祭上院特別賞、第7回毎日映画コンクール日本映画大賞など数々の映画賞を受賞。
