Military assistant advisory group

Japanese: 軍事顧問団 - ぐんじこもんだん（英語表記）military assistant advisory group

A type of military aid, a group of personnel sent to train, develop, or control the military forces of a recipient country. Examples of military advisory groups playing a vanguard role in the power politics between great powers are not particularly new. For example, when Napoleon's army invaded Spain in 1808, Britain sent military advisory groups and weapons and ammunition to skillfully support the Spanish partisan movement. Needless to say, the background to this was the intention to counter Napoleon's France, which was dominating all of Europe at the time, and the failure of this Spanish expedition hastened Napoleon's downfall.

軍事援助の一種で，被援助国の軍隊の訓練や育成あるいはコントロールをするために派遣される要員の一団。大国間のパワー･ポリティクスに軍事顧問団が先兵的役割を果たす例は別に目新しいことではない。たとえば1808年，ナポレオン軍がスペインに侵入した時，イギリスは軍事顧問団や武器弾薬を送り込んで，スペインのパルチザン運動を巧みに援助した。その背景に，当時，全ヨーロッパを制圧していたナポレオンのフランスに対抗する意図があったことはいうまでもなく，このスペイン遠征の失敗がナポレオンの没落を早めることになった。
