Gournia (English spelling)

The ruins of the Minoan civilization are located near the Gulf of Merabero in the eastern part of Crete, in the southern Aegean Sea. It was a regional city that occupied the entirety of a small hill and flourished in the 17th and 16th centuries BC. Excavated over an area of approximately 15,000 m2, it is a rare ruin that shows the entire town, and can be called the Pompeii of the Minoan civilization. On a high point with a good view, there is a building called a palace, but it is merely a small model of the Palace of Knossos and was probably the residence of the governor of the region. There are also many rooms, storehouses, and courtyards, but it is not possible to make out exactly what they are. Adjacent to the south was a square.

エーゲ海南部，クレタ島東部のメラベロ湾に近いミノス文明の遺跡。小さい丘の全体を占めた地方都市で，前17，前16世紀に栄えた。約1万5000m2にわたって発掘され，町の全体の姿をあらわした珍しい遺跡で，ミノス文明のポンペイといってよい。見晴しのよい高所に宮殿とよばれる建物があるが，クノッソス宮殿の小模型にすぎず，この地方の総督の住居であろう。多くの部屋，倉庫，中庭もあるが，つまびらかにできない。その南に接して広場があった。
