A baptismal name. It is sometimes called a baptismal name and is sometimes used to mean a given name (first name) in contrast to a surname. In response to the Bible's idea that a name expresses one's true nature, Christianity has come to place great importance on naming. The custom of bestowing baptismal names on Christians was established to show that they were born as children of God through baptism, and people began to give their children names after people in the Bible, as well as martyrs and saints who followed and imitated Christ and lived their lives to the fullest.
