1854‐1939 A leading French anarchist active from 1880 until World War I. In his early days he believed in "propaganda by action" using bombs, but gradually he placed emphasis on reforming thought through education and propaganda. In 1883 he took over the newspaper Le Révolté, which had been published by Kropotkin in Switzerland, and began publishing it in France in 1885. The name of the paper changed to La Révolte, and then to Les Temps nouveaux, but publishing this newspaper became his main activity. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
