Gmunden (English spelling)

A city in Upper Austria in northwestern Austria. It is located at the foot of Lake Traun, a glacial lake formed by the Traun River flowing out of the Dachstein Mountains. It began as a Celtic and Roman colony, with a wall built in the 12th century and city rights granted in the 13th century. Until the end of the 18th century, it was one of the centers of salt trading in the rock salt-producing region of Salzkammergut, but from the mid-19th century it developed as a summer tourist and health resort. Industries such as brewing, ceramics, textiles, and woodworking are based here. Population 13,252 (1991 estimate).

オーストリア北西部，オーバーエスターライヒ州の都市。ダハシュタイン山地から流れ出るトラウン川が形成する氷河湖トラウン湖の湖尻に位置する。ケルト人，ローマ人の植民地に始り，12世紀に囲壁ができ，13世紀に都市権を得た。 18世紀末まで岩塩産地ザルツカンマーグートの塩取引の中心地の一つであったが，19世紀中頃から夏の観光・保養地として発展した。醸造，陶磁器製造，繊維，木工などの工業が立地。人口1万 3252 (1991推計) 。
