Kouprey (English spelling)
Also known as Ko Prey. A mammal of the Bovidae family in the order Artiodactyla, similar to the Gaua but slightly smaller, with horns somewhat similar to those of a water buffalo. It lives in hilly areas dotted with forests in Cambodia and parts of neighboring Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. Body length 1.8-2.2m, tail length 0.9-1.1m, height 1.5-1.9m, weight 500-900kg. It has short body hair, and adult males are black-brown, young males are reddish-brown, females are gray-brown, and the lower halves of the limbs are white. The hanging skin on the neck is large, and in males it almost touches the ground. The male's horns reach a length of 80cm, and are flattened at the base like those of a water buffalo, with the gray outer layer near the tip peeling off to expose the dark inner part.
