A river in southwestern Russia. It originates on the northern slope of the Caucasus Mountains and flows into the Sea of Azov. The main stream is 870 km long, with a drainage area of 57,900 km2. It originates from the Uruk Glacier on the west side of Mount Elibrus, the main peak of the Caucasus Mountains, but the total length including the Uruk Glacier is 906 km. It flows north, with Cherkessk on the right bank, and then forms several clear terraces on the plain. The average annual flow rate is 425 m3/s downstream in the city of Krasnodar. ロシア連邦南西部の川。カフカス山脈の北斜面に始まり,アゾフ海に注ぐ。本流の長さ870km,流域面積5万7900km2。はじめカフカス山脈主峰のエリブルス山西側のウルク氷河から流れ出るウルク川を源流とするが,これを合わせた全長は906km。北流してチェルケスクを右岸に見て平野に出ると数段の明瞭な段丘をつくる。年平均流量は下流部のクラスノダル市で425m3/s。中~下流部に三つのダムがあって灌漑に利用される。
