This hot spring is located in Aoki Village, Chiisagata County, central Nagano Prefecture. It has a simple hydrogen sulfide spring and is 38°C. It is accessible by bus heading west from Ueda Station on the Nagano Shinkansen and Shinano Railway. The hot spring was called Ogura no Yu because Mount Okami to the east resembles Mount Ogura in Kyoto. There is a legend that Prince Shigeno, the governor of Shinano Province, took a bath there and was cured of an eye disease, and many other stories remain that recall the bustling past. It is currently a quiet hot spring resort with two inns. [Tanizawa Akira] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
