He was David's third son and was David's most beloved. In Hebrew, his name means "Father of Peace." Looking at the description in 2 Samuel, chapters 13 to 19, his beauty, political ambition, and tragic fate make him the Alcibiades of the Old Testament. His fate changed dramatically after he killed Amnon, who had raped his sister Tamar, and he eventually rebelled against his father, David, and went to Hebron to declare his accession to the throne. Bathsheba's grandfather Ahithophel and the king's friend Hushai participated in the rebellion, but Ahithophel's plan was thwarted by Hushai and he missed his chance, and he was defeated by David's army in the forest of Ephraim, and he met a tragic end at the hands of General Joab, who ignored David's orders.
