The major divisions of the geological system, or the chronology of the geological ages, are the Eons or Kingdoms Eon, which are divided into two: Cryptozoic, meaning "no clear evidence of the existence of life," and Phanerozoic, meaning "clear traces of the existence of life." However, while the name Phanerozoic is accepted worldwide, the Cryptozoic has been almost forgotten, and instead the Precambrian is often used.
