This is a method of separation in which solutes or dispersed particles in a solution are adsorbed or attached to the surface of the bubbles that are generated. Foam separation has long been used for flotation, but in recent years it has also been applied to the separation of ions, molecules, colloids, etc., and BL Karger et al. of Germany proposed a unification of the term (1967). In other words, foam separation is a process in which a surface-active substance in a solution is adsorbed or attached to the bubble surface in the bubble layer and the foam surface in the foam layer by using both the bubble layer in which bubbles are dispersed in a liquid and the foam layer formed on top of it, and separation from the solution is called foam separation, while nonfoaming adsorptive bubble separation is a process in which a solute or particle in the liquid is adsorbed or attached to the surface of the bubbles that rise in the bubble layer without forming a foam layer. Foam separation has been widely used in wastewater treatment in recent years. [Toyohiko Hayakawa] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
