A mammal of the Canidae family in the carnivora order. It has a body length of about 70 cm and a tail of about 40 cm. It resembles a dog, but has a thin, pointed snout and a thick, long tail. It is widely distributed in Eurasia and North America, and in Japan, the subspecies Ezo red fox lives in Hokkaido, and the subspecies Vulpes vulpes lives in Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu. It lives alone from plains to high mountains, is nocturnal, and feeds on mice, rabbits, birds, etc. Fox farming has developed in North America and other places for the purpose of harvesting its fur, and it is called the red, crimson, cross, black, silver, and platinum fox. Its fur is used to make collar wraps.
