Therese Giehse

German actress. She was well-known for playing strong, powerful characters. In 1925, she became a regular at the Munich Small Theater and was trained by Otto Falckenberg (1873-1947). In 1933, she fled to Zurich and played an active role with the theater company Pepper Mill (centered around Goro Mann and Erica Mann), which specialized in satire of current affairs. From 1937, she became a regular at the Zurich Theater, and returned to the Munich Small Theater after the war. She played roles such as Wolfen's Landlady in Der Beaverskin (by Hauptmann), Leroux in Earth Spirits and Pandora's Box (both by Wedekind), and Mother Courage and Her Children (by Brecht).
