Tie-up trap

Japanese: くくりわな
Tie-up trap

[Japan]
In Japan, bows and arrows were the most common hunting tools for deer, while dogs, spears, and machetes were used for wild boar, and these were also used for bears. Other tools commonly used by farmers were traps, push traps, and noose traps (trapping). For wild birds, nets were used in various forms, and there were a variety of other tools such as claw traps and bird traps, and decoys or bait were often used to lure them.

From [Trapping (trapping)]

…In contrast to active hunting methods using bows and arrows, spears, blowguns, and guns, snares are devices that are set in the path of prey to catch it when it passes by unaware. They can be classified into pitfall traps, noose traps, box traps, crushing traps, and trap-claws, but there are many variations of each depending on the size and habits of the prey and the location conditions, and combinations of these are also devised. There are traps that are simply set in the path of the prey, those that use bait or decoys to guide the prey, those that use fences to create guideways, those that have spears at the bottom of pitfall traps, noose traps that use the elasticity of wood or bamboo to create jump traps, and box traps that range from mousetrap-style traps for small animals to large fenced-in traps for large mammals. …
