A multimedia technology developed by Apple Inc. in the United States. It can handle videos, music, animations, documents, still images, etc. in an integrated manner. QuickTime files have the extension .mov or .qt, but it can also be used to play a variety of other file formats, including videos (AVI, DV, MPEG-4), audio (WAVE, MIDI, MP3), and still images (JPEG, BMP). There is also QuickTime VR, which allows you to watch 3D images. Released in 1991, it was initially only compatible with Apple's Macintosh (Mac) operating system, but has since become available for other operating systems such as Windows and Linux. Playback is done with QuickTime Player, an application provided free of charge by Apple. If editing or saving is required, QuickTime Pro is available for a fee. QuickTime X was newly developed for MacOS X Snow Leopard and later operating systems, and is a different application from the existing QuickTime that cannot be used with older MacOS or Windows.
