...In the early days of Mulan, the writers involved included Yoshiyuki Eisuke (1906-40), Narazaki Tsutomu, and Ryutanji Yu, and later Ima Uhei (later Ima Harube), Saito Toyokichi, Yamada Hisao, Hozumi Juntaro, Ozaki Masafusa, Yokokura Tatsuji, and Aki Osuke. Actors included Takehisa Chieko, Mizumachi Yoko, Tonosaki Emiko, and Sawamura Ikio, and they skillfully wove social conditions into the play with a touch of light humor and irony in works such as Ima's "Paulownia Alley" and Aki's "The Story of a Maid" (a pun on "The Story of a Factory Girl"). Subsequently, Mulan nurtured such writers as Nakae Yoshio, Kanegai Shozo, and Ozawa Fujio, and actors as Hidari Bokuzen (1894-1971), Asu Machiko, Koyanagi Nanako, Arishima Ichiro, and Sengoku Noriko.
