...After the war, Japanese Americans continued to campaign for compensation for the internment, and as a result, President J. Ford revoked F. Roosevelt's Executive Order No. 9066 on February 19, 1976. Furthermore, the Committee on Wartime Civilian Resettlement and Internment published its report, "Denied Justice for Individuals," on February 24, 1983, and its final report on June 16, making five recommendations to Congress, including the payment of $20,000 to each of the approximately 60,000 surviving Japanese Americans who were victims of internment. After that, the compensation issue became difficult due to financial difficulties and other reasons, but Congress established the Committee on Wartime Internment of Japanese Americans, and after holding public hearings in 20 locations across the United States over a two-year period to hear testimony from 750 witnesses, concluded that the wartime internment of Japanese Americans was the product of "racial prejudice, wartime hysteria, and politicians' negligence."
