〘Noun〙① A light lit in front of a god, Buddha, or noble. A sign of hope. ※Uji Shui (c. 1221 ) 2 "Offerings to Buddha and the Imperial Lantern are not ceased." ② An event to worship the North Star on March 3rd and September 3rd since the Heian period. Also, the light offered at that time. The Emperor himself would perform this after a period of fasting and purification, and common people followed suit. It was believed to protect fortune and ward off misfortune. [Season: Spring-Autumn] ※Nihon Kiryaku - March 3rd, Enki 16 (916) "The Imperial Lantern is out of service." ※Masukagami (c. 1368-76) 10 "The spring governor will be summoned, and if there are matters such as the Imperial Lantern, the Imperial procession will be returned tonight."

Mi-tou [Imperial lamp]

〘Noun〙 ("mi" is a prefix) 1. A word used to express respect for the lamp lit in front of a god, Buddha, or a noble person. Miakashi. Goto. ※Uji Shui (around 1221) 2 "Bukkyo and Otou mo na mo taenzu" 2. Since the Heian period, this is an event in which the emperor worships the Hokushin (North Star) on the third day of the third month of the lunar calendar and the third day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar. 〘名〙 (「み」は接頭語)① 神仏または貴人の前にともす灯火を尊んでいう語。みあかし。ごとう。※宇治拾遺(1221頃)二「仏供・御とうなどもたえず」② 平安時代以降、陰暦三月三日および九月三日に、天皇が北辰(北極星)をまつる行事。また、その時捧げる灯火。庶民もそれにならって行なった。ごとう。
