Spinous process

…the neural arch has a large transverse process on each side that forms an articulation with the rib. There is also a median process on the back called the neural spine (spinous process) that serves as an attachment point for segmental muscles. In fish and primitive tetrapods, the tail vertebrae have a V-shaped hematopoietic arch symmetrically above and below the neural arch on the ventral side of the vertebral body.
