…During the Han dynasty, it was called Zhongwu County, during the Sui dynasty, it was renamed Xinyang in the Song dynasty, and during the Ming dynasty, it moved to its current location. To the south lies the Tongbai and Dabie mountain ranges, which separate North and Central China, and the three passes of Wusheng, Pingjing, and Huangyan, known as the Yiyang Three Passes, cross these mountain ranges. They have always been strategic military targets during times of conflict between the North and the South in ancient China.
