...The fruit is not easily transportable, so most are consumed locally. Other varieties of the same genus, such as the sour-sop apple (Annona muricata L.), which has fleshy thorns on the surface of the fruit, and the common custard apple ( Annona reticulata L.), which has a heart-shaped fruit, are also cultivated in tropical regions, but their quality is inferior to that of the Annona. The cherimoya is considered the most delicious of the Annona species.
