Rejected - Kyakka

Generally speaking, it refers to a disposition that rejects a petition or application to a national agency.

Under the Civil Procedure Act, it means to close a case without examining the validity of the claims or appeals of the parties (if the content of the claims or appeals is examined and dismissed as being without merit, it is called dismissal). Examples include an order to dismiss a complaint (Article 137, Paragraph 2) to return a complaint without accepting it because the complaint is incomplete, a dismissal of a complaint that dismisses a complaint or appeal as being improper because it lacks the requirements for a lawsuit or appeal, or a judgment to dismiss an appeal.

Under the Code of Criminal Procedure, it refers to a judgment that rejects a petition regarding the progress of proceedings, such as the rejection of a petition to evade prosecution (Article 24) or the rejection of a request to disclose the reasons for detention (Article 86).

一般的には国家機関に対する申立てあるいは申請自体を排斥する処分をいう。

　民事訴訟法上は、当事者の請求、不服申立ての当否に立ち入らないで（これに立ち入って中身を判断し、理由がないとして排斥する場合には棄却という）、事件を終結させること。訴状の形式に不備があるとして、これを受理せず返還する趣旨の訴状却下命令（137条2項）、訴えまたは上訴が訴訟要件または上訴要件を欠き不適法として排斥する訴え却下、あるいは上訴却下の判決などはその例である。

　刑事訴訟法上は、訴訟手続の進行に関する申立てを排斥する裁判をいう。たとえば忌避の申立ての却下（24条）、勾留(こうりゅう)理由開示請求の却下（86条）など。
