...The Sai River meanders through the hills of the Sai River from Akashina Town in the eastern part of the basin, flows north and enters the Nagano Basin. The alluvial fan of the Sai River formed in this basin is called Kawanakajima Plain, and is famous for the Battle of Kawanakajima between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. ...In terms of industry, the area is home to local industries such as miso, frozen tofu, furniture, and electronics industries such as computers and televisions. In agriculture, rice is grown in the alluvial fan of the Sai River (Kawanakajimaira), and intensive fruit farming such as apples, grapes, and peaches is thriving in the surrounding foothills. Kawanakajimaira on the west bank of the Chikuma River is known as the site of the Battle of Kawanakajima between Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin in the 16th century.

...It is the second largest basin in the prefecture after the Matsumoto Basin, with the Tertiary Saigawa Hills to the west and volcanic areas such as the Shiga Plateau to the east, and is separated from the mountainous areas to the east and west by faults. In particular, the west side has clear cliffs and a nearly straight line at the foot of the mountain, with the only large alluvial fan being the Saigawa Alluvial Fan (Kawanakajimaira). On the other hand, erosion has progressed on the east side, with a peninsula-shaped spur protruding onto the basin floor, and the alluvial fan development is remarkable.
