An island in the southeastern part of Hiroshima Prefecture, belonging to Onomichi City. Its area is 2.45 square kilometers. It is located to the west of Mukaishima, across the Miyuki Strait, and is connected to Mukaishima by the Mukaishima Bridge. It is further connected to the mainland by the Onomichi Bridge between Mukaishima and Onomichi, and the Shin-Onomichi Bridge on the Setouchi Shimanami Kaido (West Seto Expressway). Mandarin orange cultivation was popular, but has declined, and now the main industry is vegetable cultivation, with scallions being a speciality product. There is a swimming beach and a campground, and many tourists visit. Population 795 (2000).
