...A hospital that provides medical care to injured or sick people transported by ambulance. In the case of a clinic, it is called an emergency clinic. In 1964, a Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare ordinance changed the designated system (emergency designated hospitals) that had been designated by fire departments to a voluntary application system in which prefectural governors make public announcements based on voluntary applications.
