Cavitation corrosion

Cavitation corrosion

[Classification of corrosion by mechanism]
Localized corrosion can be classified according to its mechanism into dissimilar metal contact corrosion (galvanic corrosion), electrical corrosion, aeration corrosion (oxygen concentration cell corrosion), blocked cell corrosion, and dew point corrosion. Corrosion under mechanical action can be erosion corrosion, friction corrosion, turbulent corrosion, cavitation corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and corrosion fatigue. A special type of corrosion is hydrogen embrittlement, in which atomic hydrogen produced by the corrosion reaction diffuses and penetrates into the steel, weakening the material and causing cracks.
