…It is also written as Manji or Manji. In Sanskrit it is called svastika or śrīvatsa, and is translated into Chinese as auspicious joy or auspicious sea cloud. It is said to have originated as a pictograph of the sun emitting light, but there are many other theories, such as one that says it originated as a stylized version of the character svasti (meaning auspicious) in the Ashoka inscription, and there is no consensus.
