Cycladic civilization

A civilization that flourished in the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea around 2500-1600 BC. It is especially famous for its small marble idols, many of which are flat but geometrically simplified female figures. These finds are found throughout the Aegean region, proving that the Cyclades played an important role in trade between mainland Greece and Anatolia during this period. As Cretan civilization gained dominance in the Aegean region after 2000 BC, the uniqueness of the Cycladic civilization was subsumed within it. Ruins include the remains of several stories of dwellings at Phylakope on the island of Milos, and necropolises at Syros and Paros.

前 2500～1600年頃エーゲ海のキクラデス諸島に栄えた文明。特に大理石を素材とした小偶像は有名で，扁平であるが幾何学的に単純化された形態の女性を表わす像が多い。これらの出土品はエーゲ海域全体に広く及んでおり，キクラデス諸島がこの時期にギリシア本土とアナトリアを結ぶ交易上重要な役割を果したことを示している。前 2000年以降，エーゲ海域でクレタ文明が優勢となるにつれ，キクラデス文明の独自性はそのなかに包み込まれていく。遺跡はミロス島フュラコペの数層の住居跡およびシロス，パロスの墓域など。
