In the narrow sense, it corresponds to the automatisms in the complex partial seizures of the International Classification of Epilepsy (1981), and in the broad sense, it is used as a concept that combines automatisms and psychic seizures (subjective seizures and psychic seizures by WG Lennox, and psychic seizures by W. Penfield). In an even broader sense, it is used almost synonymously with temporal lobe epilepsy, as a concept that combines cognitive seizures, affective seizures, psycho-perceptual seizures, seizures with impaired consciousness, and automatisms. In the broadest sense, it corresponds to the simple partial seizures and complex partial seizures with psychiatric symptoms of the International Classification of Epilepsy. …

...There are simple partial seizures without impaired consciousness, complex partial seizures with impaired consciousness, and seizures that develop into grand mal seizures. (1) Complex partial seizures: Of the seizures previously known as psychomotor seizures, this refers to seizures with impaired consciousness and automatism that clearly show impaired consciousness. Impaired consciousness seizures are seizures in which consciousness is lost for a period of several tens of seconds to one or two minutes, during which both mental and physical activity cease and amnesia occurs. ...
