…Up until this time, Koestler, like his friend G. Orwell, can be highly regarded as a witness to the times. After that, he entered the field of science history and theory with works such as “Sleepwalker” (1959) and “The Theory of Creative Activity” (1964), and severely criticized the traditional reductionist paradigm of science (“The Ghost in the Machine” (1968) and “Beyond Reductionism” (ed., 1969)). He proposed the concept of the holon, advocated a new holism, and created the impetus for the so-called New Age Science with works such as “The Nature of Chance” (1972) and “The Mystery of the Midsummer Frog” (1973). …
