An organization of Korean residents in Japan who support the Republic of Korea. In April 1994, the name was changed to the Korean Residents Union in Japan, dropping the word "resident." Abbreviated as Mindan. In October 1946, the New Korea Construction Alliance, which was formed in January of that year, combined various organizations such as the Korean Founding Promotion Youth League to form the Korean Residents Union in Japan (Mindan) in order to promote the unity of the liberal conservative camp of Korean residents in Japan in opposition to the left-wing Korean Residents Union in Japan. The organization's platform included stabilizing people's lives, improving culture, and international friendship. After the Republic of Korea was established in August 1948, the name was changed to the title at the second Mindan convention in October of the same year, and the platform also included adherence to the national policy of the Republic of Korea and protection of civil rights of Korean residents.
