A former town in Mikata County in northern Hyogo Prefecture. Occupying the Yufune River basin, a tributary of the Yata River, the town is mostly mountain forest and wilderness. Cattle farming is popular, with much of the area grazing Tajima beef. Highland vegetables are cultivated, and industries such as spinning and electrical appliances are thriving. The main settlement was a castle town and a post town on the San'in Highway (National Route 9). In April 2005, the town merged with Kasumi Town in Kinosaki County and Mikata Town in Mikata County to become a town, Kami Town. Area: 165.66 km2 . Population: 6,698 (2003).
