During the Tenpyo era, he had an affair with Kume Wakame, widow of Fujiwara Umakai, and was exiled to Tosa. For over two years, he wrote about their love affair in bed in two volumes of Kanpisou (story of sadness). The poem by Tokihito in Volume 6 of the Manyoshu about this incident is interesting as it was a popular song in the style of woodblock prints. …
