Eyespot - Ganten

It is found in the protozoan flagellates, lower invertebrates, and green algae, and is the smallest and most simplest visual organ. In flagellates, there is one eyespot, a small red globule located at the front end of the body. Normal animals show positive phototaxis to light, but mutants without eyespots react erratically. The eyespots of coelenterates and flatworms consist of pigment cells and sensory cells, and some are equipped with lenses. The structure of the eyespot varies depending on the type of animal, but all of them are directional eyes that are an intermediate stage between light and dark vision and morphological vision. In plants, eyespots are clearly visible in the gametes of green algae such as Ulva, Laver, and Acanthus, and those with a prominent presence show strong phototaxis.

原生動物の鞭毛虫(べんもうちゅう)類や下等な無脊椎(むせきつい)動物、緑藻植物などにみられ、小形で構造のもっとも簡単な視覚器官である。鞭毛虫類では、眼点は1個で、赤色の小球として体の前端にある。正常体は光に対して正の走光性を示すが、眼点をもたない突然変異体は不規則に反応する。腔腸(こうちょう)動物や扁形(へんけい)動物の眼点は、色素細胞と感覚細胞からなり、レンズを備えたものもある。眼点の構造は動物の種類によって相違があるが、どれも明暗視と形態視との中間段階にあたる方向視眼である。また植物でも、アオサ、アオノリ、ヒトエグサなど緑藻植物の配偶子にはっきりと眼点が現れ、その存在が顕著なものは強い走光性を示す。
