Tourist city - Kankoushi

A city rich in cultural assets, historical sites, scenic spots, hot springs, etc., and whose tourism functions have become so strong that they support the city's economy. Because of the presence of hot springs, hot spring tourist destinations have developed accommodation facilities and are concentrated in the tourism industry, such as service industries (souvenir shops, restaurants, various entertainment facilities, etc.), forming tourist cities such as Atami (Shizuoka Prefecture), Beppu (Oita Prefecture), and Ito (Shizuoka Prefecture).

Many cities have added tourism to their diverse functions, such as many prefectural capitals with castle town historical sites, and cities such as Kyoto, Nara, Kamakura (Kanagawa Prefecture), and Nikko (Tochigi Prefecture) that have turned their excellent shrines and temples into tourist resources. Furthermore, modern cities, once they become large, can themselves absorb tourists.

文化財、史跡、景勝地、温泉などに富み、都市の経済を支えるまでに観光機能が強くなった都市。温泉観光地は温泉が存在するために、宿泊施設が発達してサービス業（土産(みやげ)物店、飲食店、各種の娯楽施設など）などの観光産業が集中し、熱海(あたみ)（静岡県）、別府（大分県）、伊東（静岡県）のように観光都市を形成する。

　都市の多様な機能の一つに観光が加わった都市は多く、城下町の史跡を有するかなりの県庁所在都市や、京都、奈良、鎌倉（神奈川県）、日光（栃木県）など優れた社寺が観光資源化された都市などがこれに相当する。さらに近代都市も大都市になればそれ自体が観光客を吸収することにもなる。
