The exchange rate between one country's currency and another. It is also called the exchange rate or foreign exchange rate. It is the rate of exchange of different currencies when they are traded in the foreign exchange market, and indicates the external price of one country's currency. There are various types of exchange rates, such as the selling rate and buying rate set by the exchange bank, the spot rate and futures rate depending on the timing of delivery of the payment, the Japanese currency rate and the foreign currency rate depending on the display method, the customer rate and the interbank rate depending on the trading partner. There are two methods for determining exchange rates: a fixed exchange rate system in which the fluctuation range of the exchange rate is limited to a very narrow certain range, and a floating exchange rate system in which the exchange rate is determined by the supply and demand relationship in the foreign exchange market. Currently, major developed countries use the latter. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
