Karanishiki
[1] [noun] Chinese-woven brocade. Imported brocade. It is often used to compare autumn leaves with beautiful patterns of red. ⇔ Yamato Nishiki. ※Poetry Contest by Prince Koresada (893) “If it is autumn on Mt. Otowa, the leaves are smeared with red.”※Makura (end of the 10th century) 88 “Auspicious brocade. A decorative sword.”[2] Makura “Cutting,” “ Weaving, ” “ Sewing ,” and other words related to cloth and words with the same pronunciation. ※Kokin (905-914) Zatsujo, 864 “Omou dochi matoi seru yo wa Kara nishiki tatamakushiki mono ni aru keru (I think of Kara nishiki as a thing of beauty)〈author unknown〉.”[3] A reading book from the late Edo period. Four volumes and four books. Written and illustrated by Itami Chinen. Also called “Konko Shosetsu Kara nishiki.” Published in 1780. A collection of nine short stories. Based on Chinese stories such as "Suikoden" and "Keisei Tongyan," the story is set in the Ashikaga period and adapted. Tsubakien ( c. 1751-1781 ) was from Itami. He was commonly known as Tsukuniya Zengoro (Tsukuniya was the owner of the famous sake brewery Kenbishi). His other pen name was Kanshoshoshi. His other works include "Miyamagusa" and "Ryoken Kigu."

[1] 〘名〙 唐織りの錦。舶来の錦。紅色のまじった美しい模様をしているので、紅葉などにたとえて用いられることが多い。⇔大和錦(やまとにしき)。※是貞親王歌合(893)「音羽山秋としなればからにしきかけたることも見ゆる紅葉か」※枕(10C終)八八「めでたきもの からにしき。飾り太刀」[2] 「裁(た)つ」「織(お)る」「縫(ぬ)う」など、布に縁のある語や、それらと同音の語にかかる。※古今(905‐914)雑上・八六四「おもふどちまとゐせるよは唐錦たたまくをしき物にぞありける〈よみ人しらず〉」[3] 江戸後期の読本。四巻四冊。伊丹椿園作・画。別題「今古小説唐錦」。安永九年(一七八〇)刊。九話の短編から成る奇談集。中国の「水滸伝」「警世通言」などを原話とし、時代を足利時代に移して翻案。椿園(一七五一頃‐八一)は、伊丹の人。通称津国屋善五郎(津国屋は銘酒剣菱醸造元)。別号歓笑処士。別著に「深山草」「両剣奇遇」など。
