Qarawiyin Mosque

...Eventually, the two areas of the city came to be called New Fez (Fas al-Jadida) and Old Fez (Fas al-Bari), and the city continued to expand, with a Jewish quarter being built in New Fez in the early 14th century. In the mid-14th century, under the rule of Abu Inan, the population was 200,000, and the oldest mosque in Morocco, Jāmi' al-Qarawiyin Mosque (built in the mid-9th century and expanded to its present-day size in the early 12th century), is said to have housed 8,000 students.
