Coma Cluster of Galaxies

...It was traditionally part of the constellation Virgo, but in 1602, T. Brahe established it as an independent constellation. It contains a large cluster of galaxies known as the Coma Cluster. It contains about 2,000 galaxies up to magnitude 15.5, has a diameter of 6 degrees, is about 20 million light years, and is 200 million light years away.

The intergalactic space of galaxy clusters is filled with thin gas, and X-ray radiation from the high-temperature gas that is distributed so as to surround many galaxy clusters, including the Coma Cluster, has been observed. X-ray spectra indicate the presence of gas at 10 ⁶ to 10 ⁷ K that is thought to have a heavy element composition similar to or less than that of the material in the solar system. ...
