Gafsa (English spelling)
The capital of Gafsa Governorate in central-western Tunisia. It is located 270 km south-southwest of the capital Tunis, in a hilly area at an altitude of 405 m. Capsa is also the name of a stone tool mold that was excavated. It is a fruit trading center, and is famous for its oasis with more than 100,000 palm trees and traditional textiles, but today it is attracting attention as a major producer of phosphate rock. It accounts for 90% of the production of phosphate rock in Tunisia, a producer of phosphate rock. The phosphate rock is transported by rail to the port of Sfax for export.
