Chianan Irrigation System

…The Taoyuan Irrigation System is a waterway built on the Taoyuan Plateau, which spreads out to the west of the Taipei Basin. It is 52 km southwest of Taipei City, where the Tamsui River, which flows north, is blocked by the Taoyuan Plateau and changes course to the east. A dam was built at Shimen, where the river changes course to the east, and the water is led to the plateau to supply water to a reservoir. The Chia-nan Irrigation System is a dam built at Wushantou, upstream of the Guan-Tian River, which flows west in southern Taiwan, and is 55 m high and 1.3 km long. It takes in water from the Zengwen River across the mountains through a tunnel. Construction began in 1920 and was completed in 1930. The dam lake is also called Coral Pond because it spreads out like a tree along the valley, and is now a tourist destination. …

…このうち桃園大圳（たいしゆう）は台北盆地の西にひろがる桃園台地に設けられた水路で，これは台北市の南西52km，北流する淡水河が桃園台地によって行く手をさえぎられ，東へ流路を変える石門にダムをつくり，これを台地上に導いて溜池に給水するものである。嘉南大圳は台湾南部を西流する官佃渓上流の烏山頭に高さ55m，長さ1.3kmのダムをつくり，山をへだてた曾文渓の水をトンネルで取り入れるもので，1920年に着工し，30年に完成した。ダム湖は谷にそって樹枝状に広がるので珊瑚潭ともよばれ，現在観光地にもなっている。…
