Abbreviated as BAT. It is a unique brown adipose tissue whose constituent fat cells are rich in mitochondria, and the inner membrane of these mitochondria contains a specific protein called uncoupling protein (UCP), which transports H + and eliminates the electrical potential difference, oxidizing the substrate without producing ATP to generate heat. This is thought to be for the purpose of maintaining body temperature. In humans, it is common in infants and extremely rare in adults. It is distributed near the hip joints and scapulae.
