A type of silk fabric. It was written as umi-ki or kai-ki, but was given this name because it was mainly produced in Kai Province (Tsuru District, Yamanashi Prefecture). It was originally made in the early Edo period, modeled after imported fabrics. It is made using silk thread and woven in a plain or twill pattern. It is lustrous, smooth, and has a silky sound. It was popular from the Meiji period to the early Showa period, and was used for linings, futons, umbrellas, furoshiki, etc. Currently, it is also used for clothing fabric. → Related topics Uenohara [town] | Otsuki [city] | Gunnai | Tsuru [city] | Nishikatsura [town] | Fujiyoshida [city] | Yamanashi [prefecture] Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
